Transformation
Transformation is the processes whereby soil particles change from one form into another. For example, the chemical weathering of sand to the formation of clay minerals or the decay of organic matter into humus found in the A horizon. In addition, transformation occurs when soil particles (mineral or organic) move within the profile to change the soils texture.

Addition
Addition is the deposition of abiotic and biotic materials that change soils. Some of the examples are; water from surface or ground water deliver dissolved salts and other solids which also can be carried by wind, gas or form the air. Plant tissues also enhance soil by the addition of organic carbon as well as other nutrients such as nitrogen, calcium and iron. Other contributors are nitrogen fixing and photoautotrophic bacteria and plant and animal remains.
